ENDORSEMENTS

“This is a personal endorsement for LaRue Windham, candidate for sheriff in

Cumberland County on 3 November, 2026. As the author of 2 books, recipient of

the North Carolina Highway Patrol Purple Heart Award, guest speaker at every

highway patrol school and produced many officer survival and safety videos, I

think my background qualifies me to endorse LaRue from a professional stand

point as well as personal knowledge of him.

I have known LaRue since 1990 when I first moved to Hope Mills, North Carolina.

He was the DARE officer for the Cumberland County Schools in that area. My son

came home from school and said he was impressed with the deputy that spoke to

them that particular day. He also told me that he invited Deputy Windham to play

golf at our course in Hope Mills. LaRue realized that he knew of me so he stopped

by and our friendship began.

Before I met LaRue I realized that I knew of his father Cuyler, who was the retired

assistant director of the SBI in North Carolina. I realized that LaRue was from a

well respected family in law enforcement in North Carolina.

I have watched LaRue thru the years and have become a life- long close friend of

him and his family. I know Larue to be a man of character and honor. He is a great

father and helped raise a solid citizen, now in his first year of college. His son,

Cuyler, has just decided on his major in criminal justice so he could follow his

grandfather and father in their footsteps. His rearing of Cuyler is evident.

LaRue has excelled at every position he has ever achieved. If you take time to

review his credentials you have to realize that he is the most qualified candidate

to be Sheriff in many years. His background is strong in law enforcement as well

as the fiscal responsibility of managing a budget the size of the Sheriff’s office.

I hope you will support LaRue in his efforts to serve and protect the citizens of

Cumberland County.”

I am the retired Chief of Police from the Rockingham Police Department. I served my entire 30 year career at this department.

While working there I met LaRue at Mount Olive College when both of us were furthering our education. We became friends and I learned of his back ground while he was working for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and found him to be an outstanding and credible law enforcement officer as well as an outstanding citizen. Based off my knowledge with his abilities with the tactical team I asked him to train our tactical team at the RPD. His knowledge and experience was invaluable to the citizens of Rockingham.

LaRue has a strong background in Law Enforcement as well as in the community of Cumberland County. With all of his knowledge of Cumberland County he will only bring a positive impact to the citizens.

I hope you will support LaRue in his efforts to become the Sheriff of Cumberland County.”

-Ret Chief of Police W.D. Kelly

I’ve known LaRue Windham for most of my life, and I can honestly say there isn’t a better person to serve as our Sheriff.

LaRue has spent many years in law enforcement and has always been someone people can trust. He’s honest, hardworking, and has the experience and good judgment to make tough decisions when they matter most. Just as important, he’s approachable, treats everyone with respect, and truly cares about the people in our community.

One of the things I appreciate most about LaRue is his character. He’s not only the right person for the job—he’s also a genuinely good friend and someone who’s a lot of fun to be around.

I’m proud to support LaRue Windham for Sheriff and know he’ll serve our community with integrity, fairness, and dedication.”
