Over 32 Years of Law Enforcement Experience

LaRue Windham is a highly respected law enforcement professional with more than three decades of service protecting and serving communities across North Carolina. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for professionalism, leadership, integrity, and dedication to public safety.

Leadership & Command Experience

LaRue served with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office from 1988 to 2008, rising through the ranks to become Deputy Operations Commander (Captain). In this leadership role, he supervised more than 100 personnel and oversaw specialized units including:

  • School Resource Officers

  • Search & Rescue

  • K-9 Unit

  • Bomb Squad

  • Special Response Team (SWAT)

  • Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team

  • Training & Recruitment

He also coordinated large-scale security operations for major public events at the Crown Coliseum Complex and worked alongside state and federal agencies on high-profile investigations and emergency response operations.

State Corrections & Community Supervision

Following his service with the Sheriff’s Office, Larue continued serving North Carolina through the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and later with Adult Probation and Parole.

His responsibilities included:

  • Correctional Officer

  • Transportation Officer

  • Training Coordinator

  • Probation & Parole Officer

In these roles, he trained hundreds of public safety personnel and worked directly with individuals re-entering society to help improve public safety and reduce repeat offenses.
